YMCA an acronym for YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION established at Marthandam is the pioneer of Rural Development in India.

Rural Service in South India with Marthandam as headquarters began in 1916. The present Rural Demonstration Centre at Marthandam was opened in 1924. In the year 1978, the Kanyakumari Rural Centre was established at Kanyakumari. Right from inception, the Kanyakumari YMCA has been engaged actively in the social transformation processes by variety of innovative development initiatives including training young people on life, leadership, self employment skills, spiritual and ecumenical Programmes, women upliftment, enriching Tourism, organizing District & State level Programmes, accommodating guests and leaders from various YMCAs of India and abroad. The Indian YMCA Millenium Project Concept started during the year 2000, from Kanyakumari Millenium Project by Dr. Philip John, who was the Hon-Treasurer of YMCA ISH London.

Kanyakumari is an important Tourist Place and having historical and Geographical importance. The number of Tourists from India itself has grown 3times and 2 times from abroad, within the decade since the beginning of the millennium.

Number of YMCAs in India has grown from 450 to 950 with a membership of 4 lakh members. A member coming to Kanyakumari with the YMCA reference, this Millennium Project has been a Blessing. We are catering the needs of YMCAs, many Governmental and Non- Governmental, Church based, Eccumenical and various leadership Programmes.

Students & faculty members from various theological Colleges, Agricultural College, Medical Colleges, Arts & Science Colleges, Engineering Colleges and many schools find YMCA Campus as a place suitable for their stay, study and fellowship. We have organized many Regional level, National level and Inter National level exchange Programmes for the Youth and Missionaries.

The YMCA Millennium Project is situated in the southernmost peninsular India of the Kanya Kumari District. The nearest International Airport Trivandrum and the nearest railway station is Kanyakumari. There are many Tourist Attractions in and around Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari is only place in India, one can witness the sun-rise and sun set from the same place.
