YMCA an acronym for YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION established at Marthandam is the pioneer of Rural Development in India. Rural Service in South India with Marthandam as headquarters began in 1916. The present Rural Demonstration Centre at Marthandam was opened in 1924. In the year 1978, the Kanyakumari Rural Centre was established at Kanyakumari.
